Chasing Empty PavementsAfter I read the blurb for this novel, I was sure I was going to love it. Juicy family drama? Yes please! However, that was not the case and I was sorely disappointed.
My thoughts: I debating on writing this review because honestly, I wasn’t sure I could give a review based on the fact that my dislike for the characters clouded every aspect of the book. The writing could have been spectacular, the plot wonderful but because I disliked the characters so much, the rest of the novel fell apart at the seams. I thought Deede and Dan were total helicopter parents and I found myself annoyed that they couldn’t (or wouldn’t) put their foot down on Faith’s behavior and intrusion into their lives. I wanted to shake them and yell that the reason Faith acts the way she does is because they enable her to do so. Faith came off as a spoiled, whiny, stereotypical drug abuser and I just wasn’t entirely impressed with her. I do think the story did a great job of showcasing a family that’s dealing with a drug addict and all the craziness that goes along with that. Overall, I give this book a C- because I think if I hadn’t of disliked the characters so much, the actual story might not have been so bad.
